Emanuela Piga Bruni

Professor in Literary Critic and Comparative Literature

Dr. Emanuela Piga Bruni is Full Professor of Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature at the Universitas Mercatorum in Rome. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Bologna after training at the same university as well as at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 and then the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies at the University of London (which has now become the Institute of Modern Languages Research). She has been a Visiting fellow at Royal Holloway University (University of London) and the Freie Universität Berlin.

Her major works include the monographs: La macchina fragile. L’inconscio artificiale fra letteratura, cinema e televisione (Carocci, 2023; currently being translated for Peter Lang: The Fragile Machine. The Artificial Unconscious in Literature, Film and Television, in press), La lotta e il negativo. Sul romanzo storico contemporaneo (Mimesis, 2018; tr. The Struggle and the Negative. On the Contemporary Historical Novel) and Romanzo e serie TV. Critica sintomatica dei finali (Pacini, 2018; tr. Novel and TV Series. A Symptomatic Critique of Endings).

She has also co-edited several special issues of academic journals, including Marcel Proust e la significazione (tr. Marcel Proust and Signification) («E|C», 2021), Viaggio e Sconfinamenti (tr. Journey and Trespassing) («Scritture migranti», 2020), L’immaginario politico. Impegno, resistenza, ideologia (tr. The Political Imaginary. Commitment, Resistance, Ideology) («Between», 2015), Tecnologia, immaginazione, forme del narrare (Technology, Imagination, Narrative Forms) («Between», 2014).

Piga Bruni is a member of the editorial boards of the academic journals «Between» and «Scritture migranti».

Since July 2024, she has been qualified as Full Professor for the COMP-01/A - Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature concurring area.
